Rod is an abstract multimedia artist combining traditional and digital methods to make bold colour-field compositions, evoking natural and architectural forms whilst exploring juxtapositions of colour, shape and shadow. Broadly referencing modernism and mid-century design, Rod's distinctive style is best represented by colour relationships and geometric compositional form - using hard-edge blocks of often luminous colour, with a suggestion of stained glass, and overlapping layered shadow tones.
Starting with an idea from an everyday observation, compositional and colour choices emerge from collaging experiments with paper cut-outs, painted surfaces, reused materials and photography. Rod uses a physical and digital layering process that oscillates between an emphasis on traditional and digital methods, but hovers between both realms without ever being fully one or the other.
Rod lives and works in Sevenoaks, UK.
